Abstract

We report on a diode-pumped ytterbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Yb:YAG) laser with an intracavity nonlinear medium and semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM). The center of the laser spectrum was 1030 nm and the laser spectrum width was 12 nm, which is broader than the fluorescence of the Yb:YAG crystal. The output pulse width was 131 fs which is close to the Fourier transform limit of the fluorescence
